On Monday, November 14th, 2005 the Beaufort County Council held a ceremony to celebrate the Grand Opening of Pinckney Colony Preserve, a Passive Park located at the intersection of Pinckney Colony Road and U.S. Hwy 278.
A number of Pinckney Colony residents attended the ceremony to show their support for the Beaufort County Rural and Critical Lands Program.
It is our hope that the Pinckney Point property at the other end of Pinckney Colony Road will also be preserved by similar means.
The following is quoted from the Beaufort County Rural and Critical Land Program Grand Opening brochure:
Facts About the Park Purchased by Beaufort County Council from The Trust for Public Land through The Rural and Critical Lands Program in April, 2004 fo $3,250.000.00. A total of 38 acres of which 25 are pristine freshwater wetlands. The developed area is for passive use; picnicking, walking, bird watching or just sitting. The Park is also ideal for group gatherings. The large live oak is thought to be over 200 years old. Future plans call for a boardwalk through the wetlands and additional picnic facilities and site improvements. The Preserve was designed by J.K. Tiller and Associates, Landscape Architects and Planners. Special thanks goes to: Colony Properties West, LLC for its generous contribution for the planning and development of the Pinckney Colony Preserve. The residents of Pinckney Colony, J.K. Tiller and Associates and The Trust for Public Land who have agreed to maintain the Park.
